We have all watched over the last two years as the Amway
Center joined our growing, Downtown skyline. In less than two months, we
will officially open Orlando’s new, state-of-the-art events center. As a
valued community partner, I want you to be a part of this exciting day.
Please join me, our City Commissioners, the Orlando Magic and
our entire community on Friday, October 1 as we open the new Amway
Center. At 10:01 a.m. on 10/01/2010, we will host the official ribbon
cutting ceremony and formally dedicate the building to our community.
Immediately following the ribbon cutting, you will be the first to enter
the building on “opening day” and invited onto the floor of the Amway
Center for my annual State of Downtown address. This year, the State of
Downtown is a free event, open to all residents. We want everyone to be
a part of this celebration as we open Amway Center's doors to the public
for the first time.
In addition to opening day activities on
October 1st, the City and Orlando Magic will present an “Inaugural Event
Series” – a collection of events throughout the month of October to give
residents from across Central Florida an all-access opportunity to
experience Central Florida's newest venue… stay tuned for more details
to be announced in coming weeks.
As we prepare for the
building’s inaugural year of shows and events, you may have heard about
the latest concert to join the “opening line-up.” On October 7, the
Eagles will perform at the Amway Center as part of their “Fall Tour.”
The Eagles have sold more than 120 million albums worldwide, earning
five #1 U.S. singles and six Grammy® Awards. In Orlando, the Eagles hold
the record at Amway Arena for being the highest grossing show (or sold
the highest dollar amount of ticket sales) in the building’s history.
